Dr. Ralph W. Morales

Board Certified, Orthopaedic Surgeon, FAAOS

Dr. Morales is a board certified Orthopaedic surgeon and the founding partner of Southern Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. He founded the practice focusing on the delivery of expert care utilizing the most advanced treatment options available. He is a fellow of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Georgia Orthopaedic Society.

Dr. Morales received his medical training at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey. Following medical school he completed his internship at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center as an active duty Captain in the US Army. After Walter Reed he served as a general medical officer at Ireland Army Community Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky. His orthopaedic surgery residency was completed at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia. Following residency training he completed his eight years of active duty as a Major in the US Army Medical Corps at Moncrief Army Community Hospital in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. While serving at Fort Jackson he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his service as an orthopaedic surgeon. After completing his tour of duty with the US Army he completed a sports medicine fellowship at the world renowned Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Georgia where he was trained in advanced shoulder and knee arthroscopic surgery. He has authored several research studies and presented research findings at several national meetings.

Dr. Morales currently sees patients of all ages that have sports-related injuries with an emphasis on treatment of all shoulder and knee conditions. He performs the most advanced arthroscopic techniques available for the shoulder and knee along with total joint replacement surgery for the shoulder and knee joints.


Dr. Michael J. Dunn

Board Certified, Orthopaedic Surgeon, FAAOS

Dr. Dunn is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with a Certificate of Added Qualification for Surgery of the Hand.  He received his medical degree at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society.  He completed a residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Monmouth Medical Center in Longbranch, New Jersey where he received several awards, authored published papers, and designed a specialized surgical instrument to treat stenosing tenosynovitis of the finger.  He attended a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Allegheny University in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania where he co-authored book chapters in hand surgery.  He is currently a fellow of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, Georgia Orthopedic Society, and Georgia Hand Society.  He is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery for the Medical College of Georgia. He has now been with Southern Orthopaedics treating patients of the hand and upper extremity since 2001.

Dr. Dunn sees patients of all ages with a variety of upper extremity conditions from the shoulder to the hand. He sees and treats simple to complex trauma, performs arthroscopic surgery, joint replacement surgery, ligament reconstruction, nerve and micro-surgery, endoscopic carpal tunnel surgery and much more.  Most importantly, he treats the majority of the patients he sees conservatively and involves each patient in the overall decision making process to obtain the best possible outcome.


Dr. J. Kevin Brooks

Board Certified, Orthopaedic Surgeon, FAAOS

Georgia native Kevin Brooks, M.D., was the valedictorian of his senior class at Ware County High School in 1990, where he was also the most valuable player in varsity basketball and tennis, as well as scholar athlete of the year. Dr. Brooks went on to graduate with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree from Mercer University in Macon, Geogria, where he was a Ty Cobb Scholar, Troutman Weir Scholar Athlete of the Year, and an officer of Sigma Nu Fraternity.

He obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia where he earned the Outstanding Surgery Research Award and was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Brooks completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at MCG in 2003 and then served as an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery for two years where he had advanced training in orthopedic trauma, spine surgery, and total joint replacement. Subsequently, he joined the staff of Southern Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in Brunswick where he remains in practice. Dr. Brooks has earned fellowship status with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, is board-
certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. He continues to practice comprehensive orthopedic surgery with an emphasis on total joint replacement, implementing the latest technologies including robotic assisted surgery. He has served as the Medical Director of the Joint Replacement Center since its inception.

Dr. Brooks enjoys pickleball, hiking, running, wakesurfing, and paddleboarding in his spare time. He and his wife, an ophthalmologist, currently live on St. Simons Island with their twin daughters Kate and Lucy.


Dr. Raymond F. Topp, FAAOS

Lieutenant Colonel (Ret)

Dr. Topp is an internationally recognized leader in the field of spinal medicine and surgery. He specializes in advanced adult and pediatric treatment options for pain and deformity related to disc degeneration and herniation; scoliosis; kyphosis; spondylolisthesis and other spinal deformities; spinal stenosis; spinal tumors; infections and spinal trauma.

Dr. Topp joined Southern Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine after a distinguished twenty-four year career in the United States Army. He has deployed to combat numerous times in support of Operations Desert Shield and Storm, as well as, Operation Enduring Freedom. He has held numerous leadership positions throughout his career. These positions included an Armor Company Executive Officer, Medical Company Commander, Director of the Army Trauma Training Center and Chief of Spinal Surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center. His military awards include the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars and the Legion of Merit.

Dr. Nicholas Richardson

BOARD CERTIFIED, ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEON

Dr. Richardson obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. He went on to complete his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga, TN. He then completed a foot and ankle fellowship at the prestigious, Institute of Foot & Ankle Reconstruction, in Baltimore, MD. Although Dr. Richardson has advanced training in foot and ankle surgery, he is versed in general orthopedics and is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon.

Dr. Richardson has been a member of Southern Orthopaedics since 2018. He manages the majority of general orthopaedic and foot & ankle problems. He is trained in knee arthroscopy, robotic assisted total knee replacement, robotic assisted total hip replacement, and total ankle replacement.

His expertise also allows him to manage a wide range of foot and ankle problems – from simple to complex – in patients of all ages. Dr. Richardson’s broad practice includes the treatment of bunions and hammertoes, sports injuries, fractures, arthritis, deformities, and routine “pains & sprains”. He believes in a patient-centered approach where each patient’s concerns and goals are considered while creating a treatment plan. He utilizes the most up-to-date conservative and operative treatment strategies.


Richard Blake Burrell, PA

Certified Physicians Assistant, NCCPA

Blake was born and raised in Griffin, Georgia.  He graduated from Georgia College and State University with his Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training and has been a BOC Board Certified Athletic Trainer since 2012.  Blake earned his Master of Science in Physician Assistant studies in 2015 from South University in Savannah, Georgia.  He is a NCCPA Certified Physician Assistant, AAPA and GAPA member.  Blake has been working at Southern Orthopeadics and Sports Medicine since May 2015.  He is happily married to his wife, Heather.


Richard "Richie" C. Sipe, PA

Certified Physicians Assistant, NCCPA

Richie received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Valdosta State University. He completed the Physician Assistant Program at South University in 2009, receiving a Masters of Science. He is a current member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and Physician Assistants in Orthopaedic Surgery. Richie is a long time resident of Glynn County where he resides with his family.

Mark F. Dunham, NP

CERTIFIED NURSE PRACTITIONER, AANP

Mark was raised in Marietta, Georgia. He graduated from Cumberland University in 2010 with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He was accepted into the highly competitive Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s Nurse Residency Program where he worked with cardiac patients. In 2012, he and his wife moved to Jasper, Alabama where he worked in the ICU and attended The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner Program. Mark graduated from UAB in December of 2014. He is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. He also holds an active Georgia Registered Nurse license with advanced practice authority. Mark has been working at Southern Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine since December 2015. He has been happily married to his wife, Raleigh, for 8 years. He enjoys travel, golf, and fishing.
